Thomastown graduate Helen Faulkner specialises in hand thrown ceramic home wares. Based in Downpatrick, she is earning a reputation for beautifully made functional work in rich chocolate coloured clay. A native of Belfast, Helen makes mostly for food, her other love in life! Her pottery is made to be used from essential kitchenware to vases and plant pots.

Sustainability:

Helen Faulkner produces pottery from clay derived from plentiful minerals occurring in the earth, as well as glazes that Helen makes herself, with the intention for her ceramics to last for years to come. In its raw state, the clay can be recycled many times before being fired in her well insulated, therefore very efficient kiln. Ceramics require a lot of care in terms of packaging but Helen, like many of our other ceramicists, uses recyclable or repurposed materials to protect the work in transit. Lastly, Helen’s Belfast studio is within walking distance of her home which allows for a carbon free journey to and from work!
