Sinead Lough is a potter based in West Kerry. She started making pots full-time nearly two years ago after finishing the Crafts councils pottery skills course in Thomastown, Co Kilkenny. Having studied ceramics in college, she worked as a web designer and travelling, before moving to the Gaeltacht. She found a space in a converted old cowshed where she has been what she calls “quirky but old fashioned” ceramics ever since. Sinead is a graduate of NCAD and, more recently of the Craft Council’s Pottery Skills Course in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny. She makes functional and decorative hand-thrown pieces from her workshop in Kerry and also works to commission. We caught her in the act in her…
Laura works primarily in silver combining it with a range of materials, her latest work being with beech wood. Along with Clare she is behind the Irish Design Shop so what better time to get a Q&A out of the way than the day of the site launch?

Tell us a bit about yourself name, location, affiliations, personal stuff.
Hi, I am Laura Caffrey. I graduated from NCAD Metals Department in 2002 with a range of tableware. After leaving college I set up a jewellery business ‘Lula Jewellery’ with Louise McKenna. What first made you want to become an artist?
I was never any good at anything else.
Please describe your creative process how, when, materials, etc
Generally, I get ideas from magazines and books (shapes, style etc). I will then start sketching ideas and considering materials. A lot of my thought process is involved in the making, it is only then that you figure out if something will work or not.
Name your top five books, movies, songs/musical…

Heather’s business began as a stall in Cow’s Lane Market. She has gone on to acclaim and appreciation both nationally and internationally. We met her at her North Strand studio in Dublin and shot a short video of her at work...
Heather graduated with a degree in Fashion from NCAD in 2002. Specialising in knitwear, she turned her focus to rich colour ways and intense pattern. All the work is made in Ireland by Heather in her studio in the North Strand in Dublin. She uses natural yarns in cashmere, fine merino, lambswool and silk to create modern easy-to-wear silhouettes. We stopped by for a quickfire Q&A and to shoot a short video of here at work, making a scarf for the store.
