The appearance of the Snowdrop is said to be the first sign of Spring and that Winter is well and truly over. The Latin name Galanthus literally means 'milk-white flowers', describing the three inner and outer petals hanging from the single stem of each flower. Grown from a bulb just like the daffodil, the snowdrop prefers to grow in shady woodland areas and near streams. However, if you are superstitious, don't be tempted to bring them indoors as it is said that if you pick the first snowdrop of the year it will bring a death to the house.

One of a series of botanical illustrations inspired by Ireland's beautiful native hedgerows by Sally Caulwell. Other prints in the series include; Gorse, Blackberry, Blackthorn, Burnett Rose & Wild Garlic. 

Dimensions: A4 (210 x 297mm) or A3 (297 x 420mm) print on 340gsm uncoated paper. Print inset with white border. The A4 print suits this handmade frame by Rocker Lane Workshop perfectly.
