Using distinctive and skilled brushwork, this jug, hand thrown and decorated by Mark Campden features a crow pattern inspired by the hooded crows who frequent his Kilkenny garden. Full of character, each is hand-painted by Mark. The generous size of this jug makes it perfect for serving summer refreshments, warming winter mulled wine, shared cocktails, or simply as a beautiful centerpiece. Signed by the maker on the base.
Mark works in a traditional majolica technique, first forming his pieces in earthenware clay before being covered with a white tin glaze. The detailed surface of each jug is then delicately hand-painted. Each piece is decorated with fluid and organic brushstrokes, mimicking the flora and fauna of the local surroundings that Mark draws from. He also shares a studio in Kilkenny with partner and fellow ceramic artist Caroline Dolan.
Materials and care:
Each jug measures 21 cm in height x 10 cm in diameter. Each of Mark's pieces are dishwasher safe.
The Bridge Pottery uses a 100% green energy electricity provider for their electric kiln and locally sourced sustainable wood for their wood fire kiln. There is a strict quality control regime in place at every stage of the making process, so as to avoid producing 'seconds' or wasting materials and power. To optimise energy efficiency, each kiln load is packed to maximum capacity and only fired during off peak hours.
