Lunula Wrap scarf
Olla Nua

A generous wrap scarf with hemstitched fringe. The weave incorporates genuine Donegal yarn produced in Kilcar, with its distinctive homespun texture. The design has been drafted on paper, then woven on a traditional floor loom, powered entirely by hand and foot. The short fringes are hemstitched by hand directly on the loom. The cloth is then carefully scoured to the desired finish. It features handwoven selvedges, as the cloth is woven with just one scarf per width.
The design on this wrap was inspired by the subtle etchings on ancient gold lunulae from Bronze Age Ireland, as displayed in the Ulster Museum and National Museum of Ireland. These beautiful adornments are embellished with simple geometric combinations of triangles, diamonds and lines.
This versatile scarf is perfect worn as a wrap in Spring or Autumn or wrapped around the neck for wearing with a winter coat. A luxuriously soft piece in a timeless design.
