The rectangular shape of the Margaret pendant is crafted in sterling silver. Once formed, it is then altered, by filing, to create a split level which offers a different aspect on either side, giving the wearer a choice of two options. As is characteristic of the collection, small features are highlighted by the contrasting matte and polished finishes. Hanging perfectly centered on an 18 inch anchor chain, the Margaret Pendant is also available in hard wearing 18ct gold plating.
The Country Shop was born out of Muriel Gahan’s ambition to sustain the traditional crafts of Ireland, homespun fabrics in particular. Before opening the shop, Muriel went in search of the finest spinners and weavers around the country. Margaret Murray was one of these spinners. She was washing wool in a mountain stream when Muriel and her sister Grania finally tracked her down in Newport Co. Mayo. A technique favoured by Margaret was dying wool with moss in a black pot on the turf fire. There is a piece of Margaret's indigo and white homespun with a crottle fleck in the National Museum’s folklife collection (presented by Muriel Gahan in 1951)
