Handcrafted in Ireland by The Handmade Soap Co. exclusively for us here at Irish Design Shop.

Long-time pal of Irish Design Shop, artist Lucy Sheridan, created these illustrations for us, to evoke the changing spirit of the ancient Celtic seasons; Imbolc, Bealtaine, Lúnasa and Samhain.

Imbolc (February 2nd) As we enter the light side of the calendar, this soap embodies crisp mornings and new green shoots.  Featuring a rejuvenating mint and rosemary fusion, a touch of geranium and lighter notes of vetiver, this traditionally made soap is refreshing for any time of the year.

Bealtaine (May 1st) Of a hazy summer's day, the ground is bursting with life and the sun is out to shine upon us. The zesty freshness of lemon verbena, is paired beautifully with floral and juniper notes to emulate a garden in full bloom. a

Lúnasa (August 1st) A time of harvest and letting go. Think fallen leaves, spices, and stewing fruit. With a blend of patchouli, labdanum, and peru balsam with top notes of sweet orange and juniper, this is a real treat for your skin and senses.

Samhain (October 31st) Entering the dark half of the year, with it's a cold winters morning, crunchy frost & a turf fire. This blend of frankincense, myrrh and clary sage offer respite from the colder elements.

Sustainability:

The Handmade Soap Company are based in a refurbished linen mill in Slane. They recommissioned the unused hydroelectric turbine, allowing them to use water from the River Boyne to power their machinery, lights, heating, and internet.  As they do not rely on oil, gas or carbon fuels, they function entirely powered by nature.

The team who create the Handmade Soap Company products are local, even including four sets of siblings!

Their packaging is made up of 100% post-consumer recycled material, which can be recycled again, and any inbound card is shredded to be reused as outbound packaging.

Our Story

Clare Grennan and Laura Caffrey established Irish Design Shop in 2008. A love of Irish craft and good design led these two jewellers to set up a retail space which offered customers both.
