As with all the large earrings in the ‘Homespun’ collection, these earrings create impact while remaining lightweight and comfortable to wear. Formed in 2mm square silver wire, the polished elements reflect light and compliment the matte finish. The Lillie earrings have a lovely tactile quality which comes from the subtle movement. As with all Names Dublin jewellery, focus is placed on small details, which adds to the overall appeal of each handmade piece. The Lillie earrings are also available in 18ct gold plated silver.
Lillie Curtain joined the staff of The Country Shop in 1931 as head cook. She was one of the ‘lifers’ in the kitchen, and a very close friend of Muriel’s who became a director of the company in 1956. Lillie was an indisputable pillar of The Country Shop, overseeing all catering and staff of both the cafe and shop. A close knit workplace, the staff members were more like a surrogate family to Lillie. On the first day of opening, the cafe sold out of food, leaving only a surplus of eggs and jam, and so ‘The Country Tea’ was born. A staple of the cafe until its closure in 1978, the simple menu consisted of potato cakes with scrambled eggs, tea and jam.
