Cherry Drop Carafe
A substantial carafe made to be used as much as admired. We wanted this statement piece to be as functional as it is beautiful, adding the ring of blue glass around the neck to make the weighty piece easier to hold and pour. A skilled technique undertaken by Rory. The cherry coloured glass at the bottom not only adds a pop of fun but also keeps the carafe steady and balanced. Complete your table setting with our Blueberry Fizz tumbler.
Our Cherry Drop carafe forms part of 'Sweet Shop', a collection of handblown glassware in a range of zesty colourways evoking memories of the traditional sweet shop. A collaborative project with Kilkenny-based studio Jerpoint, we spent time experimenting with colour, shape, and tactility before finalizing the collection, which consists of a stemmed glass, tumbler, and carafe. Beautifully crafted, exclusive to Irish Design Shop.
Dimensions: 28.5cm tall with 6.5cm wide spout (11.2" tall with 2.5" spout) and holds approx. 1.5l of liquid. As each piece is mouth-blown and hand-formed, sizes may vary slightly.
Jerpoint Glass was established in 1979 by husband and wife Kathleen and Keith Leadbetter at their home in Kilkenny. Kathleen still manages the business alongside Rory Leadbetter, Son of Keith and Kathleen, and Master Glassblower at Jerpoint Glass Studio.
The collection takes inspiration from the first glass that Keith created back in the early 1970’s. We spotted this in Kathleen’s living room over coffee. It served as a reference point throughout our two days of prototyping in the hot shop, playing with scale, curve, and how each piece felt in the hand. Jerpoint Glass is synonymous with colour, so it was always an important factor when creating our combinations of boiled sweet hues.
For a lifetime of enjoyment with your Jerpoint Glass, follow these simple care instructions.
- Wash by hand in lukewarm water. We do not recommend Jerpoint for use in a dishwasher as the water is heated too rapidly which may cause thermal shock. Also dishwasher detergents can be very abrasive and damage your glass over time.
- Avoid drip-drying or air-drying as this may leave a residue marks on the glass. For the best results polish your glass with a good-quality linen cloth.
- Avoid rapid temperature change as it could cause thermal shock that may lead to a crack in your glass particularly jugs and tankards.
- Always handle with care; a knock can cause a weakness in the glass that shows up as a crack long after an accident occurred.
