Dursey Island Decanter

This decanter complements the original collection of three tumblers, the 'Dursey Island' pattern depicts a cross-section of the Island itself with the sheep roaming the fields and the two horizontal lines representing the cable-car wires that connect the island to the mainland. The deep prismic cuts form a pattern, which is enhanced by the matte and polished finishes. This satisfyingly weighty tumbler, handblown in Waterford, sits comfortably in the hand. Eamonn has ground the base of the decanter flat, keeping the design minimal but for the inclusion of our Áras logo, engraved on the base of each.

Dimensions: The decanter measures 20.5cm tall without and 27.5cm with the stopper and 11cm in diameter at the base. 

When we came across artist Mary Callaghan's lino prints, the strong linear quality, and contrasting shapes, we immediately thought of the potential to translate her work in cut glass. Eamonn Terry is an expert craftsman specialising in hand-cut Irish crystal, based in An Rinn, Co. Waterford who has been on our radar for some time.

We were delighted both Eamonn and Mary shared our enthusiasm for the project which resulted in a seamless collaborative process. Three designs were chosen based on Mary's Dursey Collection of lino prints, a series which draws inspiration from three seasons Mary spent living on the rocky outcrop off the wild South West coast of Cork.
