Maud Brooch
Our statement Maud brooch is cast directly from the rock surfaces of Ireland's east coast to create an incredibly tactile piece that is a joy to wear. We spent time working on a strong pin that ensures this brooch will stay in place on your favourite coat. Interesting from every angle, the Maud broach is part of our Lomán collection that blends the organic and rugged with our trademark matte finish. This brooch is named after Maud Cotter, a visual artist living and working in Cork.
Details: This brooch is crafted from brass and plated in durable 18ct gold. Dimensions: 67mm in diameter x 20mm in width (at the widest part). The pin is stainless steel. Designed and made by hand in our Dublin workshop.
Names Jewellery began as a side project for the founders of Irish Design Shop; Clare and Laura. It has grown to be an integral part of the business, branching into an independent studio space on neighbouring Exchequer Street. Each piece of jewellery, crafted by hand, is named after a woman who inspires Clare and Laura, be they family members, disrupters, or fellow makers.
Lomán is a rock of which only the summit is exposed. A forgotten Irish word, along with other beautiful words that once differentiated the kinds of stone and rock that form our coastline.
Our connection to the land that shaped our customs and traditions is slowly eroding. Developing this collection on the rocky coastline, observing the diversity of texture and pattern caused by wind and wave, rooted us in our landscape. This tactile jewellery collection celebrates these small, quiet observations of our everyday surroundings.
Each piece in this collection is named after an artist or activist who is inspired by or works directly in the Irish landscape.
Each piece of jewellery in this collection is crafted by hand in our neighbouring workshop. We carefully source our raw materials from respected suppliers here in Dublin. Brass is a highly sustainable material due to its endless recyclability, and the gold plating is carried out in nearby Co. Kildare, keeping our carbon footprint to a minimum.
