Niamh Necklace
Our complex, rectangular Niamh necklace is cast directly from the rock surfaces of Ireland's east coast to create an incredibly tactile piece that is a joy to wear. Hanging on a sturdy, round anchor chain measuring 20 inches in length, with the option to wear it at the shorter 18-inch length, and finished with our trademark tag. The Niamh necklace is part of our Lomán collection that blends the organic and rugged with our trademark matte finish. This necklace is named after Niamh O’Malley, a Mayo-born artist who lives and works in Dublin.
Details: This necklace (including chain) is made in brass and plated in hard-wearing 18ct gold. The rectangular piece measures 30mm in length x 16mm in width x 13mm in depth. Designed and made by hand in our Dublin workshop.
Names Jewellery began as a side project for the founders of Irish Design Shop; Clare and Laura. It has grown to be an integral part of the business, branching into an independent studio space on neighbouring Exchequer Street. Each piece of jewellery, crafted by hand, is named after a woman who inspires Clare and Laura, be they family members, disrupters, or fellow makers.
Lomán is a rock of which only the summit is exposed. A forgotten Irish word, along with other beautiful words that once differentiated the kinds of stone and rock that form our coastline.
Our connection to the land that shaped our customs and traditions is slowly eroding. Developing this collection on the rocky coastline, observing the diversity of texture and pattern caused by wind and wave, rooted us in our landscape. This tactile jewellery collection celebrates these small, quiet observations of our everyday surroundings.
Each piece in this collection is named after an artist or activist who is inspired by or works directly in the Irish landscape.
Each piece of jewellery in this collection is crafted by hand in our neighbouring workshop. We carefully source our raw materials from respected suppliers here in Dublin. Brass is a highly sustainable material due to its endless recyclability, and the gold plating is carried out in nearby Co. Kildare, keeping our carbon footprint to a minimum.
