River Animals
Decorative wooden animals designed by Dublin illustrator Sally Caulwell, and carved in hardwood by Cork maker Pat Murphy. This series is exclusive to Irish Design Shop.
The river Dodder flows from its rocky, mountainous source, meandering through rural and urban landscapes towards the sea. These waterways provide essential habitats for our wildlife, from the smallest invertebrate to the majestic mute swan. A delicate ecosystem that must be protected. Also included inside, you'll find a river guide, detailing the journey of the River Dodder from the Kippure Mountains all the way down to Ringsend, and more information about the nature of the river animals.
"I would like to live like a river flows. Carried by the surprise of its own unfolding." – John O' Donoghue
Can choose from the majestic Salmon, charming Otter, or stoic Kingfisher.
This is not a toy!
Pat Murphy is a self taught wood worker based in Kildorrey, Co. Cork.
Originally a butcher, Pat dabbled in wood working as a pastime. When his butcher shop was forced to close in 2007, he started selling his work at local fairs and markets. Seeing the success of his work, he launched CK53 design in 2017, to expand the reach of his work.
Why CK53? When the butcher shop closed, Pat converted one of the outbuildings into his workshop, which was licensed to Cork County Council. The license number was Cork 53, or CK53, and so the name stuck!
Pat uses sustainable hardwood frm FSC certified forests. Growing up in the countryside, Pat has huge respect for nature and the maintaining of the natural landscape.
