The sculptural outline of the Sadie pendant is formed in 2mm thick silver, creating an altered rectangular shape. A mix of straight lines and clean angles, it sits perfectly centred on the wearer, hanging on a 60cm long anchor chain with handmade clasp. The contrasting finishes of matte and polished complete this statement necklace which is also available in 18ct gold plated silver. Each piece of jewellery within our Homespun collection is named after a woman who was involved in The Country Shop:
The kitchen staff were very important in The Country Shop, keeping things running efficiently day to day. Sadie Quigley from Ringsend was the cake cook for forty-one years. During The Emergency (WWII in Ireland), Sadie remembered sleeping overnight in the kitchen, scared out of her wits. She stayed in order to catch ‘the glimmer’ (which was when they could use the rationed gas at 5am). This gave enough time to bake the scones and breads for the cafe which opened daily at 8am.
-The above information was attained from Geraldine Mitchell's book on the life and work of Muriel Gahan 'Deeds not Words'
The pendant is 20mm in height x 38mm in width x 10mm in depth and hangs on a chain which is 60cm in length. If your preference is for more delicate jewellery, you might like our miniature Sadie necklace which is available here.
