Spearmint Chew Tumbler
Spearmint Chew forms part of 'Sweet Shop', a collection of handblown glassware in a range of zesty colourways evoking memories of the traditional sweet shop. A collaborative project with Kilkenny-based studio Jerpoint, we spent time experimenting with colour, shape, and tactility before finalizing the collection, which consists of a stemmed glass, tumbler, and carafe. Beautifully crafted, exclusive to Irish Design Shop.
A small but weighty hand-blown tumbler with a spearmint base. Perfect for a morning juice, a refreshing glass of water, or something stronger. The handmade quality of these glasses gives them a lovely tactility, making them a joy to hold and use. Sold individually, they can be mixed and matched with other colours in the collection, including Blueberry Fizz and Raspberry Ripple.
Our hand-blown carafe in Tangerine Twist serves as an ideal water jug, designed to perfectly complement this glass.
Dimensions: 11cm tall and 6cm diameter (4.3 x 2.4”) and holds about 150ml of liquid. As each piece is mouth-blown and hand-formed, sizes may vary slightly.
Jerpoint Glass was established in 1979 by husband and wife Kathleen and Keith Leadbetter at their home in Kilkenny. Kathleen still manages the business alongside Rory Leadbetter, Son of Keith and Kathleen, and Master Glassblower at Jerpoint Glass Studio.
The collection takes inspiration from the first glass that Keith created back in the early 1970’s. We spotted this in Kathleen’s living room over coffee. It served as a reference point throughout our two days of prototyping in the hot shop, playing with scale, curve, and how each piece felt in the hand. Jerpoint Glass is synonymous with colour, so it was always an important factor when creating our combinations of boiled sweet hues.
For a lifetime of enjoyment with your Jerpoint Glass, follow these simple care instructions.
- Wash by hand in lukewarm water. We do not recommend Jerpoint for use in a dishwasher as the water is heated too rapidly which may cause thermal shock. Also dishwasher detergents can be very abrasive and damage your glass over time.
- Avoid drip-drying or air-drying as this may leave a residue marks on the glass. For the best results polish your glass with a good-quality linen cloth.
- Avoid rapid temperature change as it could cause thermal shock that may lead to a crack in your glass particularly jugs and tankards.
- Always handle with care; a knock can cause a weakness in the glass that shows up as a crack long after an accident occurred.
