This book has been a firm favourite in our shop over the last couple of years. Containing 75 short biographies of extraordinary women in Irish history including some well known names (Peig Sayers, Queen Maeve and Grace O’Malley), and some not so familiar names including Ireland’s last ‘changeling’ Bridget Cleary & Biddy Early, animal healer and poteen drinker extraordinaire. A collection so diverse, and spanning the centuries, this book is essential reading for anyone with an interest in Irish history and women’s studies.

Our Story
Clare Grennan and Laura Caffrey established Irish Design Shop in 2008. A love of Irish craft and good design led these two jewellers to set up a retail space which offered customers both. Irish craft was witnessing a revival at this time, with a new breed of Irish designer/maker producing exciting, design-led products which embraced traditional and new techniques.
