Saille Baskets

Saille Baskets

Saille is the Irish word for willow, and in English, it is often referred to as Sally. Diane Carton learned to weave with willow over 15 years ago from a fellow basket weaver. Living in the wilds of the Boggeragh mountains in north Cork she began by practicing with hedgerow materials before planting her own willow bed. Diane is inspired by the colours, patterns, and palate of nature around her.

Describing herself as a permaculture designer, using nature’s gifts as her raw materials, she says the ingredients for her work are ….. soil, skill, soft rain and sunshine.
