Six generations of the Cushen family have been crafting exceptional textiles in Graiguenamanagh, County Kilkenny. Spinning yarn and weaving blankets, forging a reputation and setting the standard for the marque of quality and excellence that we carry forward today. Together Philip and his daughter Miriam continue this incredible story.
"We do everything under the one very old roof and have done for centuries. We’ve used our creativity, craftsmanship and passion to do what’s needed at every stage of the process and transform wool fleece into beautiful, soft, vibrant, and warm blankets, throws, scarves and yarns".- Miriam Cushen
One of only two vertical mills left in Ireland, Cushendale was established in the 18th century. Situated in Graiguenamanagh, a town that is long associated with wool and textiles, the Cushen family have continued the tradition and techniques of their ancestors. As a material, wool is 100% natural, renewable and biodegradable. The fully traceable Irish wool begins with specially selected farmers from Galway to Wexford, their lambswool yarn from an English heritage spinning mill and the Mohair yarn comes from one supplier in Italy. The cornerstone of Cushendale’s ethos is lifelong pieces, created by generations of their family, to be enjoyed for generations by yours.
