Homespun is the second collection in the Names Dublin jewellery range. Containing fifteen pieces all made by hand in sterling silver with an 18ct gold-plated option, this work is a natural progression on the first collection, Lineage.
Working from their Drury street studio, Clare Grennan and Laura Caffrey create items that, while modern, are heavily influenced by traditional skills and the warmth and tactility of the handmade. Honouring the women of The Country Shop, pieces in the collection are named after the founders, staff and suppliers.
Muriel Gahan founded the Country Shop in December 1930 as a means to promote and showcase traditional Irish craft. The establishment supported many isolated craft workers, particularly women, until its closure in 1978 through the funds raised in the very popular cafe and gallery in No. 23 St Stephen’s Green.
Laura discusses the inspiration and making process of this handmade jewellery on our 'stories' section here.
